About The Queensbury: Queensbury Theatre is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which offers professional and educational theatre programs. Located in CityCentre, Queensbury is the only professional theatre in West Houston. With the desire to bring a new theatrical experience to Houston and to contribute to the future of the art form, Queensbury Theatre strives to produce, create and cultivate professional, ground-breaking, and affordable musicals and plays on an intimate level. Queensbury Theatre houses and operates the Tribble School for the Performing Arts, a program which serves 350-400 students and their families per semester. In 2015, Queensbury moved into its current state-of-the-art facility which features a 250 seat proscenium theatre and a 100 seat black box theatre.

About the Position: Queensbury’s Overhire Lighting Technicians may be hired for Load-in work on an as-needed basis or on a show specific contract to serve as Lightboard Programmer, Lightboard Operator, Followspot Operator, or Deck Electrician. Specific duties could include but would not be limited to Console Programming, Console Operation, Daily Show Maintenance, and/or Followspot Operation.

 

Responsibilities:

● Performing as an electrician for load-ins, changeovers, focus calls, strikes, notes calls and maintenance calls.

● Actively participate in preparing required equipment, organization of color, templates, and other consumables as well as the wiring of practicals and effects for all shows.

● Participate in maintenance of lighting department equipment and facilities as assigned

● Programming and running of the lighting console for all technical, dress and brush-up rehearsals, note sessions and performances as assigned by the Associate Artistic Director or Production Manager.

● Perform as show electrician as productions required

● Act in concert with the theatre’s safety policies in the theatre

● Actively engage in education and development of anti-oppressive and inclusive practices and policies in the scene shop and theatre-wide

● Related duties as assigned by the Production Manager.

 

Minimum Qualifications and Competencies:

 

Education/Experience: Lighting/electrical experience necessary. Working knowledge of current lighting instruments and equipment. Programming on an ETC Ion.

 

Supplemental Functions: The candidate has the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Has strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to work both independently, and collaboratively. Is detail-oriented with excellent multitasking and prioritization abilities.

 

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Prolonged periods of standing at work table, ability to regularly move and lift 30-50 lbs, work at heights up to 30 feet on regular ladder and personnel lifts. No major sources of discomfort. Accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Typical hours are during the day, but the position requires the flexibility to be available for weekend, holidays, and evening work hours as needed.

 

Compensation: Compensation is commensurate with experience and ability.
