Queensbury Theatre is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which offers professional and educational theatre programs. Located in CityCentre, Queensbury is the only professional theatre in West Houston. With the desire to bring a new theatrical experience to Houston and to contribute to the future of the art form, Queensbury Theatre strives to produce, create and cultivate professional, ground-breaking, and affordable musicals and plays on an intimate level. Queensbury Theatre houses and operates the Tribble School for the Performing Arts, a program which serves 350-400 students and their families per semester. In 2015, Queensbury moved into its current state-of-the-art facility which features a 250 seat proscenium theatre and a 100 seat black box theatre.

About the Position: Queensbury’s Season Scenery Technician is responsible for the construction and installation of all scenery using a variety of methods and materials as assigned.

 

Length of Employment/Contract: Depending on the applicant availability and experience - a contract could be offered for the upcoming Season OR on a production by production basis. The first production available is the Tribble School’s Fall 2024 production run of HADESTOWN THE MUSICAL, running from October 27th-November 10th. 

Responsibilities:

● Construction of scenic pieces in wood, metal, plastic and other materials

● Actively participate in all builds, strikes and load-ins for each production

● Participate in the daily cleaning and maintenance of the scene shop and its equipment.

● Act in concert with the theatre’s safety policies in the scene shop

● Actively engage in education and development of anti-oppressive and inclusive practices and policies in the scene shop and theatre-wide

● Related duties as assigned by the Production Manager.

In addition to the responsibilities outlined above, Queensbury Theatre expects all employees

to: follow the theatre’s policies and procedures; work safely; complete tasks as needed based

on workload; maintain a positive and respectful attitude; communicate regularly with their

supervisor regarding departmental matters; demonstrate effective time management and

prioritize tasks accordingly; consistently attend and arrive on time; meet productivity

standards set by the department; participate in Queensbury Theatre events as required; and

perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications and Competencies:

Education/Experience: Construction experience necessary. The ideal candidate has skill in:

woodworking, framing, finish carpentry, metal working, welding, bending, and training in safe

operation of stationary and portable power tools and hand tools.

Supplemental Functions: The candidate has the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic

environment. Has strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to work

both independently, and collaboratively. Is detail-oriented with excellent multitasking and

prioritization abilities.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Prolonged periods of standing at work table, ability to regularly move and lift 30-50 lbs, work at heights up to 30 feet on regular ladder and personnel lifts. No major sources of discomfort. Accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Typical hours are during the day, but the position requires the flexibility to be available for weekend, holidays, and evening work hours as needed.

Compensation: Compensation is commensurate with experience and ability.
